Neighborhood Success Warren Grant Making Committee

Clayton Lohry says Neighborhood Success works to 'erase helplessness'

Clayton Lohry, a long-time resident of the Mahoning Valley, said he is happy to serve on The Raymond John Wean Foundation’s “Neighborhood Success” Grant Making Committee because he believes that the committee’s work has helped bring some positive change.

“This program has gone a long way in addressing the various problems that are prevalent in the cities of Warren and Youngstown that have been so hard hit by bad economies, crime and youth issues,” Lohry said.

Lohry, who serves on the Warren Grant Making Committee, said he believes that the committee members are knowledgeable about the problems and opportunities of the neighborhoods where they live and are, therefore, in an ideal position to help make decisions about which programs can help the most.

Lohry, who is retired from the Champion Local Schools, said one of the Mahoning Valley’s greatest assets is its volunteer base.  He also said the community’s rich history and heritage, its functional parks and well-preserved buildings are also among its assets.

“If we are able to erase the helplessness that has set in, then the people themselves will turn all of the negatives around,” Lohry said.
