Gordon Wean helped transfer family foundation into a community asset
Gordon Wean has been a strong advocate for transforming the foundation that his family started into a community asset for the Mahoning Valley.
Wean, who holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a law degree from The Ohio State University, practiced law in Warren and taught high school English at University School in Cleveland. From1998 to 2008, he served on the Cleveland Heights Citizen’s Advisory Committee, an organization that helps city officials make decisions about how to award Community Development Block Grant funding. Cleveland Heights has used the CDBG funding for housing rehabilitation programs, fair housing initiatives and programs geared to help struggling families. Wean also chaired that group for two years.
Wean, who is now retired, currently sits on the board of the Ohio Grantmakers Forum, which provides support and advocacy for foundations and organizations who want to better serve their communities through organized philanthropy.
Wean and his wife, Sarah, live in Cleveland Heights.
