The Raymond John Wean Foundation has not forgotten about the Mahoning Valley or its people
After the Wean Corporation was no longer involved in manufacturing, Wean family members didn't forget about the people who had helped them find success.
The Wean family has kept the Raymond John Wean Foundation in the Mahoning Valley where it offers funding to local efforts whose goals and priorities meet the foundation's objectives. Essentially, the Wean family turned the foundation over to the community.
This philosophy was inspired, in part, by a desire to avoid what so many companies and executives had done: make money in the Mahoning Valley and then leave, forgetting about the community and people who had been so integral to success.
Since 1949, The Raymond John Wean Foundation has provided more than $90 million in grants to a broad variety of nonprofit organizations. Over the years, the Foundation has evolved from a small, board-managed organization with informal grantmaking procedures to a strategic and proactive professionally-staffed foundation deeply committed to the Mahoning Valley.
