MARCH 2010
The Center for Community Solutions
$50,000 to help The Center for Community Solutions continue to build the trained network of early childhood providers in the Mahoning Valley and throughout the state to create lasting policy change. Additionally, funding will be used to help educate legislators and candidates about the importance of early care and education in Ohio. Finally, the funding will help promote the overall public understanding of the importance of early childhood education and care.
"This is a striking example of the results of good public policy work by an extremely competent organization," wrote directors of The Raymond John Wean Foundation.
Family Child Care Accreditation Project
$19,222 to help six family child care providers in the Mahoning Valley to obtain accreditation through the National Association of Family Child Care. The facilities selected for inclusion in the program will receive help from a program mentor to discuss how to implement accreditation standards and there will also be monthly meetings with peers to discuss the process and to work collaboratively.
Community Advocates for Young Learners
$20,000 to help fund a program that will support and prepare ten principals and administrators from schools in Mahoning and Trumbull counties for assessing their early care and educational environments. The training will also assist these school officials with strategies for how to respond to and address those needs.
Voices for Ohio's Children
$40,000 to help advance the agenda of Voices for Ohio's Children. This work will take the form of legislative advocacy, including meetings with legislators; administrative advocacy, including events and meetings with various leaders to push agendas; and increased media awareness.
In addition to other projects, Voices for Ohio's Children has been working to increase the number of children who have health insurance in the Mahoning Valley.
SEPTEMBER 2009
Early Childhood Resource Center $45,633 to Early Childhood Resource Center to fund mentoring for Mahoning Valley child care center administrators. This project is intended to support administrators who seek to improve the quality of care for children in child care centers.
Millcreek Children's Center $10,900 to Millcreek Children's Center in Youngstown to develop a mutli-year strategic plan aimed at securing their future sustainability.

$235,000 payable over three years for early childhood consultation project that provides support and training to childcare centers to deal with social, emotional and behavioral needs in the classroom

Center for Community Solutions $40,000 towards building a long-term commitment to quality early childhood development in Ohio by providing research and communications.
Community Solutions Association $176,125 payable over three years will provide funding to provide Project KIND to all kindergarten children in Warren City Schools.
